SKYLINE CHILI PICTOGRAM PROJECT

What is a Pictogram?

A pictogram is a pictorial symbol representing a concept, object, activity, place or phrase. Pictograms are characterized by their simplified style, which omits all details that are unnecessary.

Project Details

This project required that twenty pictograms be designed for any subject of choice. I chose the restaurant Skyline Chili for its out-dated aesthetic. I decided that a set of unique pictograms for Skyline would help modernize their look and appeal.

 Style Iterations

Final Style

The Final Style creates a relaxed, sketched aesthetic with a bold personality.  The thicker consistent line stroke mixed with the asymmetrical color blocking allows the design of each pictogram to be playful and uniform at the same time.

Pictogram Finalization

Picture
An online survey was conducted to determine if the pictograms clearly communicate what they intend to represent. Over 100 people familiar with Skyline Chili participated.

Survey results were particularly low for the Deluxe Burrito and Greek Chicken Wrap pictograms. Both scored less than 50% accuracy rate and were often confused for each other.

With further inspection, only the wrap needed refined because people were confusing it for the Deluxe Burrito.
