The Innovation Studio is ran by The College of Nursing at The Ohio State University. This mobile workshop exists to help foster interprofessional collaboration in creating health care solutions.
My group consisted of two graphic designers and two industrial designers. For this Design Sprint, my team had only 48 hours to research a health care problem, design a solution, create prototypes and perform usability testing. When it came to discussing health care problems, my group was most interested in food and diet on campus. We narrowed down the problem we wanted to solve: The Traditions Dining Halls at OSU provide students a large variety of options. However, a surplus of options combined with buffet style dining can lead to over eating, which often hinders nutrition and body weight. How can we inspire students to eat healthier and manage their portion sizes? What tools can we provide students to make better decisions at the dining halls? |
The Track-It tray is a new plate for dining halls designed with a convenient place for a smart phone. It includes an adjustable grip for any phone and a standard square plate area for food.
The app allows the user to create a custom profile. From the profile information, the app provides consumption recommendations. The app's main feature is the QR Code Scanner which helps students track food with ease. The app would also store meal history for reference. |
A New User Journey was designed to better understand how the current personas would interact with the new Track-it Tray in a dining hall setting. This new journey shows a convenient and easy way to monitor overeating and portion control. The app supplies knowledge and keeps the user responsible. Keeping track of what you eat helps limit the total amount consumed per user.
Once the App and Tray were finalized, a prototype of each were crafted to perform usability testing. Five participants used the Track-it Tray and App to perform seven different tasks. |
